Every year, people sat across from me
and said they didn’t want medication.
I never argued.
I asked:
“What would you do if you broke your leg?”
They always said the same thing.
“I’d use crutches.”
“It’s the same thing.”
Medication is a crutch for the soul.
You don’t use it forever.
You use it while you heal.
Most of them went quiet.
None of them argued after that.
Most agreed to try it while they were in therapy.
What I didn’t say out loud,
They were already medicating.
Just not with anything prescribed.
Alcohol. Drugs. Sex. Video games...
What are you using to manage your emotions that you haven't admitted to yourself yet?
